Summer at home with little kids can feel like a beautiful, chaotic blur — especially when they’re constantly asking for snacks. To help our days flow more smoothly, I’ve found that a few simple Sunday habits go a long way. These six tasks aren’t complicated or time-consuming. They’re quick, realistic, and they truly help reset our home — and my mindset — for the week ahead.
1️⃣ Fridge & Pantry Sweep
First, I open up the fridge and see: What are we low on? I immediately plug those items into my running grocery list on my phone.
Next, I look for anything that needs to be tossed — though, if I’m on top of my meal planning, very little goes to waste (because food waste makes me so sad). I also check what needs to be used up soon and mentally plan a leftover night or quick meals to finish it off.
Same goes for the pantry. Almost everything is decanted into clear containers, so this sweep takes maybe 60 seconds.
2️⃣ Meal Plan for the Week
Next, I build a loose meal plan around what we already have. I check our calendar to see which nights we’ll be home, any nights we’re dining out, hosting friends, or eating elsewhere — and I sketch out meals around that.
3️⃣ Set Up the Calendar
I love a calendar — or three. I have a paper planner, a dry-erase board in the pantry (my husband never checks it, but it makes me happy), and my main digital calendar on my phone.
On Sundays, I look at the week ahead:
– Any appointments or can’t-move commitments
– A play date or two with friends
– A library trip with the kids
– Our usual errands (I love to do errands and fill up my gas tank on Mondays!)
-I block out what mornings we’ll be out and what afternoons we’ll stay in. My rule: keep it simple and flexible — especially with little kids and being 35 weeks pregnant when I recorded this.
4️⃣ Zero Out My Inbox
This one’s non-negotiable: I am a zero-inbox person. The idea of 10,000 unread emails? Panic-inducing.
So every Sunday, I clear out my email, tackle anything lingering, and handle any quick actions that pop up.
5️⃣ Build My To-Do List
From my inbox sweep (and life in general), I build a fresh weekly to-do list.
It might have three items or twenty, depending on the week. Some tasks magically resolve themselves (the best kind!) but most get checked off in the days ahead.
6️⃣ Wash the Linens
Lastly, I strip all the beds and wash everyone’s sheets and bath towels.
Fresh linens = a fresh start. Simple as that.

Why It Matters
These six little things set our home up for a smoother week — even when life throws curveballs. (When I first shared this, we were dealing with historic flooding that destroyed our entire finished basement. Talk about an unexpected to-do list!)
Life is unpredictable. But the small weekly rhythms I can control make such a difference.
Try them — you might find yourself becoming a Sunday person, too.
Thanks so much for reading (and listening!). See you back here next Thursday.
