Today’s post is all about surviving—and maybe even thriving—through life with a newborn and a two-year-old. It’s my third time walking through this wild, tender stage, and I wanted to share what’s helping: the real-life rhythms, honest moments, and little survival strategies that keep me grounded. If you’re in it too, I hope this feels like a deep breath and a reminder that you’re not alone.
The Reality of Life with 2 Under 2 😅
Having a newborn and a two-year-old is no joke. It’s physically intense, emotionally demanding, and absolutely nonstop. Those first few weeks feel like your entire routine has burned to the ground. But over time, something new and beautiful rises from the ashes—you will find your rhythm again.
It’s messy, loud, overstimulating, and exhausting. But it’s also precious, sweet, and fleeting. You’ll get good at:
- Nursing a baby while reading to a toddler
- Diaper changes with a baby strapped to your chest
- Doing everything one-handed
- Juggling meltdowns while trying to poop or find your keys
This is the most physically demanding season of motherhood, hands down. But friend, you will survive it.
Practical Tips for Daily Survival 🍼🥪☕
Here are a few things that truly help:
- Prep in the quiet moments. Make your toddler’s lunch while prepping breakfast. Pack the diaper bag the night before. Preset your coffee machine.
- Get ahead of transitions. Leaving the house or heading into nap time? Anticipate both kids needing you at the same time.
- Lower the bar. Screen time, freezer meals, bribes, coffee, and concealer? All totally valid survival tools.
- Build simple home systems. Laundry routines, meal prep, and cleaning rhythms will keep things (sort of) sane.
Give Yourself Grace 🤍
You’ll often feel like you’re not giving either child your full attention. That’s okay. That’s normal. You’ve given them each other—and that’s the best gift of all.
Your baby will adore your two-year-old, and no one will make them giggle like their sibling can. Instead of labeling your toddler as a “good” big sibling, try narrating their kind actions: “You noticed the baby wanted her pacifier and you gave it to her. That was so thoughtful.”
My Favorite Book Recommendation 📚
One of the most helpful resources during this season?
📖 How to Talk So Little Kids Will Listen
It’s packed with tools for reframing language, managing toddler behavior, and supporting emotional growth—for them and for you.
Reframing the Hard Moments 🧠
Shift your mindset from “I have to…” to “I get to…”
- I get to change this diaper.
- I get to buckle my child in.
- I get to do the work of mothering.
These reframes are tiny but powerful reminders that this season, while exhausting, is also a gift.
A Powerful Perspective: “The Diary of a Two-Year-Old” 💔
I read a short piece called The Diary of a Two-Year-Old that hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a raw and tender reminder of how overwhelming life can feel for our toddlers—and how they aren’t being difficult just for the sake of it. They’re simply trying to make sense of the world.
(You can read the full piece in the episode transcript or listen to me read it in the episode above.)

Final Thoughts ☕💛
Two under two is wild, and it’s okay if it feels like too much sometimes. It is too much. But it won’t last forever. Every day, your babies will grow, and it will get easier. You’ll settle into new rhythms. And one day, you’ll look back at photos of this season and think, Wow. That was beautiful. And we made it.
So hang in there. You’re doing amazing. And may your coffee be as strong as mine. ☕✨
Thanks for tuning in—and Godspeed. 💛
