As a mom of four little kids, the idea of “living a healthy, energetic life” can feel impossible. Between sleepless nights, endless laundry, and constant chaos, perfect breakfasts, workouts, or biohacks seem… laughable. 😅
But here’s what I’ve learned over the past few months: energy isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about doing a few things consistently, thoughtfully, and well. Here’s what’s working for me right now.
Listen Here
🌙 Sleep is everything
Sleep is the foundation of energy, mood, and patience. Even with four kids (including a 17-month-old), I’ve committed to:
- Shutting down screens around 8:30 p.m.
- Being in bed with a book by 9 p.m.
- Lights out by 10 p.m. at the latest
Not every night is perfect, but having a default routine—mirroring the kids’ bedtime cadence—has made a huge difference.
🚶 Gentle, consistent movement
Movement doesn’t have to be intense to matter. I use a Fitbit Inspire 3 to:
- Track steps, sleep, and readiness
- Get hourly movement reminders (even if I’ve hit 10,000 steps)
- Encourage short walks, stretches, or pacing between chores
Even a 10-minute stroller walk in the cold Midwest winter boosts my mood, gives me sunlight, and helps my body feel alive. 🌞
🍷 Mindful alcohol habits
I used to have a glass of wine almost every night. Even one drink impacts sleep and energy the next day. Now:
- Wine is mostly for Shabbat or special occasions
- Weekday evenings: sparkling water with fresh fruit, mocktails, or tea 🍓🥒
- I notice big differences in sleep quality and next-day energy
🥗 Whole foods without losing joy
Healthy eating doesn’t have to feel restrictive. My priorities:
- Homemade bread, protein-rich meals, and lots of veggies 🥑🥕
- Avoid processed foods, GMOs, and seed oils
- Still enjoy burgers, fries, ice cream dates—because life is meant to be lived 🍦
🌱 Small swaps for long-term health
Beyond food and movement, I’m slowly swapping personal care products to safer options:
- Skincare, haircare, and toiletries one product at a time
- No rush, no panic—just thoughtful, slow choices
✨ Start small, be consistent
If you’re overwhelmed, pick one thing to start:
- Earlier nights 🌙
- Daily walk 🚶♀️
- More protein 🥚
- Less alcohol 🍷
- Five minutes of movement here and there
These micro-habits compound over time. Energy is possible—even with four kids under seven—and it comes from small, intentional steps.
As moms, we deserve to feel awake, grounded, and alive 💛. Good energy isn’t a perfect system or a biohack—it’s a series of small, consistent choices that honor our bodies, minds, and even our souls. Start small, be patient with yourself, and celebrate every tiny win. Your energy is worth it—and you’re worth it too.
