Annnnnd we’re back! It’s been about 2.5 years since I last posted a WWATW, and a lot has changed. We sold our home, moved into a temporary rental, bought a new home (we just moved in last week!), and had our third baby somewhere in between. I missed this series, and my one of my goals for Q5 (yes, I break up my year into five quintiles instead of four quarters) is to tidy up this little food blog of mine, and resume the WWATW series. So here we are. We’re so back!
WEEK OF OCTOBER 29 – NOVEMBER 04
GROCERY SHOPPING = $263.82
$190.58 at Trader Joes for the Big Sunday Shop, $10.32 at Target for the granola my older son likes and a small bottle of honey (the kind shaped like a bear, because toddlers), $37.83 at Dierbergs and $25.09 at Trader Joes (again) for mid-week runs. Way more than we typically spend, oh well.DINING OUT = $4.90
Minimal dining out this week, my husband bought lunch a few times this week at the office, and Saturday afternoon, and he typically pays cash so I have no idea — but on my end, it was one muffin on a Wednesday morning, $4.90SUNDAY LUNCH
After Hebrew School, we came home for lunch. The baby went straight for a nap, and ended up sleeping until nearly 4pm. Lucky me. I made the kids turkey sandwiches, my husband and dad (in town to help with our move earlier in the week) had one too. I made myself a mixed green salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, and shallots with red wine vinegar.SUNDAY DINNER
Tonight was my first time cooking a full dinner in our new kitchen. We moved on this past Tuesday, and it felt good to have an old family favorite. We had pasta bolognese with a baguette and glasses of red wine. We dropped my dad off at the airport after dinner.MONDAY LUNCH
In between unpacking and organizing the chaos, my husband and I settled on leftover pasta and a green salad and bread, the baby joined us for lunch. The big kids were at preschool.MONDAY DINNER
Chicken marsala with roasted broccoli and roasted potatoes, absolutely delicious and another family favorite. I love cooking in our new kitchen.TUESDAY LUNCH
Toddlers at preschool, husband in the office today, baby slept through lunch. So I heated up a rice bowl with leftover sesame-honey chicken from Shabbat.
TUESDAY DINNER
WEDNESDAY LUNCH
My husband worked from home today, and we decided to raid the fridge for a leftover lunch. He finished up the chicken marsala, broccoli, and roasted potatoes, while I finished last nights couscous, green beans, and butternut squash from last week. I also threw together a little green salad to round it out. The baby slept through lunch (he was really tired from his baby gym class earlier in the morning!), toddlers were at preschool. I did purchase a muffin at the coffee shop next to his baby gym as an after class treat for us both – $4.90WEDNESDAY DINNER
Chicken pot pie. It’s been very cold these last few days, so chicken pot pie was so perfect, so delicious. My daughter used bone and dinosaur cookie cutters on the leftover pie dough, so it was like a little dig and hunt. Very fun, very tasty.THURSDAY LUNCH
It was unexpectedly hectic morning. So I wolfed down a really early lunch of last nights chicken pot pie leftovers before my friend L came over for a visit. When the baby woke up from his nap, he had a portion of chicken pot pie leftovers as well (so good).
THURSDAY DINNER
In the fall & winter, I like to designate Thursdays as soup day. Tonight was no exception, we had chicken noodle soup and I baked a loaf of crusty bread that I let rise all day long. It was delicious.FRIDAY LUNCH
Today, a friend came over with her two kids to see our new house, and then walk to a park with two strollers, one scooter, and five kids between us (I have all three kids on Fridays). She surprised me with a dozen bagels and cream cheese from Bread Co. so we had a picnic in the park, and everyone ate more bagels than they should have. So that sort of became our lunch.SHABBAT DINNER
I prepped Beef & Barely stew in the slow cooker at 7:30AM, and it was absolutely perfect by the time we sat down for Shabbat dinner. I’ve been leaning into ‘Slow Cooker Shabbats’ for a number of reasons, an definitely plan on adding our family favorites to the blog soon!SHABBAT LUNCH
We decided to walk to the park and pack a picnic, the weather was absolutely perfect and it was a wonderful afternoon. I packed turkey sandwiches with grapes, strawberries, apples, cucumbers, and bell peppers for the kids, and made myself a simple green salad and had cashews and apricots on the side. My husband wanted take-out from a spot around the corner, so he held out until we were settled and home from the park.SATURDAY DINNER
I taught a cooking class tonight, so my husband was on his own with the kids. They all had leftovers from the week as their dinner. All in all, I’m proud of how this weeks meal planning panned out (pun). A week full of family favorites, which are definitely comfort foods for us all.
