As of today, Missouri is rolling out Phase I of Opening Up. However, it won’t really change our day to day for the foreseeable future. Nomesie’s daycare still hasn’t decided when to reopen, my husband’s WFH situation isn’t changing, and our favorite SAHM activities (even simple ones like story-time at the library, splitting a croissant at a coffee shop, indoor play-spaces, etc.) are still a no-go.
Hello, and welcome back to a much overdue edition of overrated reads! It’s been a while, but I’m pumped to start up this series again.
I should preface with the fact that I did enjoy these books, but I did find them to be hyped up quite a bit. With that said, I still ended up giving each of the three books below either a 3 or 4 stars on Goodreads.
The Murmur of Bees is a historical fiction set in Northern Mexico in the early 1900’s during the Mexican Revolution and the Spanish Flu. The novel was originally written in Spanish, later translated into English, and every sentence was absolutely poetic and magical. I think there’s also something charming about novels that are translated into English!
Last year, I managed to surpass my reading challenge of 52 books by finishing 54. Which was v surprising to me because I had a four week old baby at the start of 2019. I plan to keep the same goal of 52 books for 2020, just being realistic here — I’m due with my second baby in June, and have a strong feeling my reading time will drop to essentially zero with two babies, two cats, and one husband.
